A nuclear fuel pellet (8 mm in diameter and 11 mm long) used in a conventional reactor contains the energy equivalent to burning one metric ton of coal. After that energy is spent in that reactor, up to 25 times more energy can be extracted in a fast reactor from that same fuel pellet. Why would you call that waste?
